Uncovering Breast Health and Genetics

Marie Borsellino, RN, OCN, CBPN-IC

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and a good time to bring real awareness to this disease that affects 1 in 8 women, taking the lives of almost 40,000 women and 450 men each year. Our guest speakers, Marie Borsellino, Breast Health Navigator at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and Cathleen McCann, Certified Genetics Counselor at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, will help us uncover the truths about breast cancer. Marie will shed light on the myths about breast cancer, give us signs and symptoms to watch out for, and proper breast self-exam techniques. She will also enlighten us about the breast health programs available to the women of our community. Cathleen will answer questions about genetics and hereditary cancer. She will explain the differences between sporadic, familial, and hereditary breast cancers.  Additionally, she will discuss the pros and cons of genetic testing and the role of genetic counseling.
